Peh

Peh stands for the organ of speech - the mouth. Our power of intelligent speech is what distinguishes us from the animals. Our mouth makes it possible for us to fulfill our ultimate purpose, which is to praise G-d. The Hebrew phrase underlining the letter Peh translates to, "You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing" which is the ultimage recognition that Everything comes from G-d, and is good. This phrase comes from the Blessing after Eating, and is also found in Ashrei, one of the daily prayers. The shape of the Peh symbolizes a closed mouth because there are times when one should also remain silent. The blue field symbolizes silence, while the dramatic flowers and the color of the letter symbolize the other position of the Peh, when one should speak. A Giclee print of an original painting by Arel Mishory.
